Moon Palace Cancun Hosts Global Flu Summit

Mexico’s immediate reaction, taking control of the epidemic in a matter of a month, and acquired knowledge is proof that the world can only benefit from Mexico’s experience, said the country’s Minister of Health.

The Governor of Quintana Roo, Felix Gonzalez, emphasized the importance of this event, as it shows the reestablishment of confidence and trust in the country, especially in the Mexican Caribbean, where tourism continues to recuperate at a rapid pace and is almost back to normal seasonal occupancy levels. The Global Summit not only positioned all of Mexico and singled out Quintana Roo as a safe place for tourist activity, but also served as platform to exchange knowledge and information regarding Influenza A (H1N1) virus benefiting people around the worlds, added Gonzalez.

“One of our best selling points for families is that at Palace Resorts our child rates are for kids ages 4-17,” says director of Marketing Maira Briceno. “Children 3 years of age and younger stay and eat free.” Most hotels, she adds, offer children’s rates only for those 12 years old and younger-once they turn 13, they pay the adult rate.  At Palace Resorts, children 4-17 pay $50 per night when sharing the room with adults.

According to Briceno, Palace has begun providing parents with cell phones so they can go about their day without worrying about the little ones. “If a child wants to leave the kids’ club, we just phone their parents and they can go and pick them up. We have implemented this feature at the Cancun Palace already and soon all the kids’ clubs will have it.

In its efforts to protect and preserve the environment and keeping in mind that their idyllic locations are often naturally abundant and ecologically significant – Palace Resorts has created the “Palace Resorts Environmental Committee” to guarantee effective practices among the staff and visitors through out its properties.  The program stretches to the most minute detail of the hotels’ operations, from green administration to reducing waste and educating personnel at all levels.

One of the company’s environmental undertakings is a program that protects native plants from the jungle, mangroves, wetlands, and more by collecting them before construction begins on a new project, and harboring them in nurseries to protect their survival.  It has also established a sea turtle protection program along the beaches of
