Moon Palace Cancun Hosts Global Flu Summit

Acknowledged as one of the world’s finest meeting properties, Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort in Cancún, Mexico, was chosen to host the Global Flu Summit on July 1-3, 2009. The Global Flu Summit was held to reflect on the lessons learned from the Influenza A-H1N1 virus. Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon called the meeting to order on July 2, 2009 and then the attendees collaborated resources from around the world to uncover tools to  prevent, limit and mitigate the pandemic

Attendees included the World Health Organization General Director Margaret Chan, who recently praised Mexico for the openness and speed with which it implemented health measures, as well as Pan-American Health Organization General Director Mirta Roses, ministers of health from approximately 40 different countries and the highest level specialists and representatives from more than 50 countries. Mexico’s immediate reaction, taking control of the epidemic in a matter of a month, and acquired knowledge is proof that the world can only benefit from Mexico’s experience, said the country’s Minister of Health.

The Governor of Quintana Roo, Felix Gonzalez, emphasized the importance of this event, as it shows the reestablishment of confidence and trust in the country, especially in the Mexican Caribbean, where tourism continues to recuperate at a rapid pace and is almost back to normal seasonal occupancy levels. The Global Summit not only positioned all of Mexico and singled out Quintana Roo as a safe place for tourist activity, but also served as platform to exchange knowledge and information regarding Influenza A (H1N1) virus benefiting people around the worlds, added Gonzalez.

Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort was chosen to host The Global Flu Summit due to its stunning meeting facilities at the largest convention center in Cancún, as well as its reputation for five-star service and amenities. The extraordinary conference center facilities include 142,000 square feet of flexible meeting space with permanent staging, the capacity for up to 8,600 attendees, and the option of 40 breakouts. Serving as one of the most technologically sophisticated resorts in Mexico, high tech board of director rooms and a business center will make these conference facilities ideal for the Global Flu Summit.

All Inclusive Family Resorts Mexico

“One of our best selling points for families is that at Palace Resorts our child rates are for kids ages 4-17,” says director of Marketing Maira Briceno. “Children 3 years of age and younger stay and eat free.” Most hotels, she adds, offer children’s rates only for those 12 years old and younger-once they turn 13, they pay the adult rate.  At Palace Resorts, children 4-17 pay $50 per night when sharing the room with adults.

All Inclusive Palace Resorts has a number of family-friendly properties through-out Mexico with a variety of activities, amenities and perks for the whole tribe. “On the west coast of Mexico we have Vallarta Palace. In Cancun, we have the newly remodeled Cancun Palace. This hotel has a spectacular kids’ club with its own pool and water park with slides, theater table games and lots of entertainment,” explains Briceno.

“The Moon Palace Cancun is its own destination in itself. Here kids have plenty of fun; aside from the kids’ club, we offer miniature golf and a playground, an entertaining pool with slides, and for older kids (13+) we now feature paintball (for an additional fee). Xpu-Ha Palace offers a mini-zoo, snorkeling and kayaking onsite, and ecological tours around the property. Kids and parents can also rent bikes and explore the property on their own.” Each resort, she adds, has its own unique features and personality.

Added convenience is on the way at Palace’s kids’ clubs. According to Briceno, Palace has begun providing parents with cell phones so they can go about their day without worrying about the little ones. “If a child wants to leave the kids’ club, we just phone their parents and they can go and pick them up. We have implemented this feature at the Cancun Palace already and soon all the kids’ clubs will have it.

Briceno encourages guests to learn more about all of Palace’s All Inclusive Resorts and decide which is best suited to their needs and wants. “We offer a variety of hotel options for all tastes, whether it’s the hip Cancun hotel zone or secluded Moon Palace. If [you] prefer a more laid-back retreat, the Riviera Maya offers a variety of options or an island feel at Cozumel Palace.”

In its efforts to protect and preserve the environment and keeping in mind that their idyllic locations are often naturally abundant and ecologically significant – Palace Resorts has created the “Palace Resorts Environmental Committee” to guarantee effective practices among the staff and visitors through out its properties.  The program stretches to the most minute detail of the hotels’ operations, from green administration to reducing waste and educating personnel at all levels.

One of the company’s environmental undertakings is a program that protects native plants from the jungle, mangroves, wetlands, and more by collecting them before construction begins on a new project, and harboring them in nurseries to protect their survival.  It has also established a sea turtle protection program along the beaches of

Quintana Roo, with three SEMARNAT- authorized camp sites.  SEMARNAT is responsible for developing a state policy of environmental protection that reverses ecological deterioration and promotes sustainable use in Mexico.  Additionally the resort properties point out the associated fauna that shares their habitat for guests to learn, appreciate and protect the animal species that live in each area.

Xpu-Ha Palace in the Rivera Maya just received the certificate of environmental quality in tourism from Mexico’s PROFEPA (Federal Procurement of Environmental Protection), with the Moon Palace set to receive the award in the very near future.  The company’s goal is to have at least nine of its properties to receive the certification by the end of 2009.
